    CHANGE TO SBWCPTM RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS

    The total number of continuing legal education (CLE) credits required has increased from 12 to 15 (including 3 ethics and professional responsibility (EPR) credits).

    State Bar of Wisconsin Certified Paralegal (SBWCP) certifications up for renewal on July 1, 2024, will require 15 CLE credits (included 3 ethics credits) by that date. Please see the Recertification Process page for additional information.

    PARALEGAL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT AND GUIDELINES

    • 1.       The Paralegal Association of Wisconsin, Inc. (PAW) will be sponsoring a $550 scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year.  The recipient will be selected no later than December 19, 2025 with the scholarship check to be sent upon receipt of the student’s enrollment for the upcoming semester.
    • 2.       Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student in a paralegal education program, having completed at least 12 credits toward the program and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits toward the paralegal education program for the upcoming semester (January 2026).  In addition, applicant must have a “B” average or better.   Students in a Paralegal post-baccalaureate program are eligible subject to the above requirements.
    • 3.       Applicant must submit:
    • A.       a typed application: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:4b3bd970-ff14-47f4-b976-f7cd84d3b2ab,
    • B.       two professional references (name, address, and telephone number listed on the application),
    • C.       a letter of recommendation from the director/instructor of the paralegal program,
    • D.       a copy of the applicant's (unofficial) transcript, and
    • E.       a short paper (no longer than four pages, double-spaced) on the topic “Why I Decided to Become a Paralegal.”

    Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration. Applications and accompanying documents will not be returned to the applicants.

    • 4.       Selection will be based on scholastic excellence, participation in campus and paralegal program leadership activities, community service, and a stellar writing sample. Proven need for financial assistance may be considered.
    • 5.       The scholarship is to be used to pursue a paralegal education and the scholarship check will be made payable to either: 1) the school on behalf of the student, 2) the financial aid provider on behalf of the student, 3) the student and the school, or 4) the student and the financial aid provider. If the scholarship recipient is a second-year student and tuition has been paid in full, PAW is required to pay the award directly to the school, after which the school will issue a check to the student as an overage. We advise all students to check this policy with their school.
    • 6.       Applications and all supporting documents MUST be received by Monday, December 15, 2025, no later than 5:00 p.m., by email to the PAW Scholarship Committee at admin@wisconsinparalegals.org.
    • 7.       The scholarship recipient will be notified no later than Friday, December 19, 2025, via telephone or email.
    • 8.       It is at the Scholarship Coordinator’s and Board of Directors’ discretion to not award a scholarship during a year in which acceptable applications were not submitted.
